Barefoot Books community bookseller, believer in the village.
Here I am.
Here you are.
Perhaps we have a similar goal to cultivate global community and mindfulness, foster compassion and empathy or enhance emotional intelligence in ourselves, the community and the children....our future. Perhaps you are just starting your journey. Perhaps you are seasoned in yoga and mindfulness.
I'm glad you are here.
-Emily
Emily is the founder of Barefoot in the Village. She is a currently a homeschooling mom of 2 young boys on a mini homestead in SW Austin. With a BA in Early Childhood Education and MSN in nurse-midwifery as well as experience in the US Peace Corps and with Habitat for Humanity International, Emily has a wide array of experience and tools to bring to the table. Her homeschooling journey is based loosely on Montessori principles and learning methods and she tries to incorporate yoga, mindfulness and compassion education into the home-school environment.

After years of practicing yoga, meditation and mindfulness, Emily trained in Imagination Yoga, a children's yoga program, in Portland, Oregon in 2016. Around the same time she attended a Barefoot Books bookfair and immediately fell in love with the mission and books. As a busy mom, she has worked to combine these resources, skills and her talents to help spread resources to help grow a new generation of inclusive, compassionate global citizens. She added Vinyasa teacher training to her tool belt in 2021 after a difficult season dealing with grief and trauma related to her birth experiences and struggling to find the motivation to continue with regular practice.

Through Barefoot in the Village, Emily hopes to spread resources for healthy whole-hearted living: mind, body and spirit. Yoga and Mindfulness classes will expand with time and training. And,you are going to love Barefoot books, which fill a under-represented niche in children's literature. With themes like equality, diversity, compassion, nature, movement, international awareness!

Emily is a generous and compassionate soul--the kind of person you want to be around and who inspires you to be the very best YOU. Her wisdom is genuine and treasured.
I love Barefoot Books because they are vibrantly illustrated, carefully written, and intentionally inclusive. They are the kind of books that teach without preaching and are wonderful additions to any home or school library.
